September 11 – Ten Years Later

September 11, 2001 is truly a day that has stuck with me over the years.  As an eighteen year old college freshman, in the first month on my “own” – I watched the tragic events unfold on TV from my dorm room.  My roommates were in just as much shock as I was – in just moments we watched the world change right before our eyes.  The following day I helped in my own very small way and donated blood for the very first time.  The feeling at The Red Cross was one of patriotism – everyone wanted to help our neighbors in New York.

In the following days we were all glued to the TV – watching updates, crying as you watch people desperately search for loved ones, and crying tears of joy as they pulled the last few survivors from the rubble.  I have always had a love for photography and graphic design, but I honestly think watching those iconic images of the three firemen who raised the flag, the picture of a hero with a single tear down his face, or the picture of a child mourning their parent made me want to take pictures to capture moments in time.  Someone once asked me in college – “Why do you take so many pictures?”  my reply “Because I want to remember everything.”

God Bless America ; the rescuers, the soldiers, the victims, and the families.  I haven’t forgotten you, and never will.
