Gift Ideas

Christmas is sneaking upon us and what better time to start thinking about gift ideas for your loved ones!? Old pictures are some of my favorite to work with. I have done some minor retouching and digital repairs to pictures that were cracked or torn as well as worked on restoring some balance so the image is clearer.

Included in this week’s post are a handful of holiday gift ideas that are ALL below $30.00! The first gift idea I’d like to discuss is the memory page. My grandma died when I was young so I don’t remember as much as I’d like to but I remember her amazing smile, hugs, and her signature perfume smell. I’m not certain of the scent but when I catch a whiff I’m taken back to my childhood and getting a hug from her. This memory page was something that I thought of recently. I took a picture of my grandmother and I, scanned her handwritten recipe that I enjoy making, added a couple of quotes that truly remind me of her and am in love with how it turned out. I will be placing my copy in a black frame and putting it near my ever growing cookbook collection. Alternative ideas could be used with a poem or story about someone you’d like to remember instead of the recipe. The possibilities are endless and can be a great way to remember someone who is important to you or the person you are giving the gift to.

Pricing for a memory page –
5”x7” – $10.00 (insert only)
8”x10” – $15.00 (insert only)
If you’d like a frame included the prices for frames start at $5.00 and can go up depending on what you are looking for. Gift wrapping is also available if you’d like something that will look absolutely amazing under the tree!

The second gift idea is old photo collage.
As I mentioned above, I love working with old photographs. They capture an exact moment in time and if you use your imagination – you might almost see the picture being taken! This collection of prints is some of my favorites of my grandparents. The images cover the years right around the time that my grandparents were dating and their first years of marriage in the 1940’s.
Pricing for an old photo collage –
5”x7” – $10.00 (up to 5 photos) $1.00 more for each additional photograph (ie: 7 photographs is $12.00)
8”x10” – $15.00 (up to 5 photos) $1.00 more for each additional photograph (ie: 7 photographs is $17.00)
Frames & gift wrap are also available and prices are the same as a memory page.

The third and final gift idea for this week is a holiday card.
These cards can be designed and printed by you at a local print shop such as staples or office depot.
Design layout and formatting for printing 2/page is $25.00. If you’d like these for Christmas cards – please place your order by December 10, 2011 to allow enough time for design and your printing.

Make your gifts this season personalized and sentimental. The best gift doesn’t have to cost much – it just has to come from the heart.

See you all next week for another post with more gift ideas!

NEW Ideas! Fall has arrived & Custom Wedding Graphics

Fall is my favorite season to take pictures in.

There is an abundance of colors and textures that is hard to find in any other season; the crunch of leaves, the changing trees, and grass preparing for the coming winter can create some breathtaking pictures.   Here are a collection of fall shots that are featured on my facebook page (www.facebook.com/jenkdesign) and were taking a few weeks ago as fall was just starting to make a statement.  I will be taking more fall shots in the near future and will be posting them soon.

This week I also started working on some wedding designs for a friend.  As usual once the design process starts I’m addicted until I feel I have reached a stopping point.  For this wedding coming up next summer I will be designing a monogram for a custom wedding gift as well as help to create coordinating wedding items such as the wedding program, and place cards for the reception.

I adore working on weddings; if you would like some custom design that will capture your personality as well as be affordable, please contact me.  I can also work on some wedding invitations that are completely personal to you!  You pick all the details and I will put it together in a format that can be printed on your own personal home printer or taken to an office supply store.

Personalize your event!

It’s quite often that I talk to friends or clients about personalizing an event.  They want to add an extra special touch but aren’t sure where to even begin.  One thing that has always been my favorite to see and create is a slideshow or video.  One of my first creations was a slideshow for my grandmother’s 80th surprise birthday party.  I took tons of pictures of her over the years from baby to present day and set it to meaningful music.  There wasn’t a dry eye in the place – it was the personal touch that everyone talked about after the party more so than the event itself.  My favorite part might have been listing to her explain to everyone when the picture on the screen was taken, along with anything she remembered about it.  “That picture was taken in 1948 and that was a blue dress from a catalog.”

The special event doesn’t have to be a wedding, it can be anything.  Maybe you want to put pictures on a DVD so you don’t have to worry about them getting damaged (cracked or torn), or covered in fingerprints which can actually damage old pictures.

Talk about pictures with your loved ones before it’s too late.  I try to ask questions at every visit about when my grandmother was my age since she is my last living grandparent.  To hear some of her stories as she was growing up usually generates a lot of laughter and extra special memories that I can now carry forward.

I just updated the facebook page with some fall pictures.  Be sure to check it out if you like “pretty” pictures.

Have a fantastic week!
