Hello 2013 ~ Professional Resolutions

I am amazed at the fact that it is January 6, 2013! Where did December go?! First off I have to apologize with not having much activity on facebook during December.   I put my blog and for the most part my entire business on the back burner until I could dedicate more time to it.

I have come to the conclusion that making New Year’s resolutions rarely work out however I have pledged to set a reminder on my google calendar with phone reminders to make a blog post every month and a facebook post every week. I think a majority of these will occur on Sunday’s to kick off the week.

Photography projects have slowed down with wedding season being over, however spring ushers in some fun photo opportunities. Senior sessions are still available and I can get edited images to you in about 2-3 weeks. Seniors who might have forgotten or put it off – how fun could it be to have some pictures taken in the snowy landscape? I will be doing an outdoor portait session with some snow scenes, I put the images up on my website or on my facebook page.

Here is to a happy & inspring 2013 to all of you!

I have a website! ~ Christmas is in 58 days!

Happy Halloween everyone! As I was thinking about putting together my end-of-October post I wanted to share some very exciting news. After designing two different sites for Jen K Design – I found one that fits. I now have a domain, website, and facebook page. In the past year I’ve realized just how important it is to be accessible from various platforms. So first and foremost – the link to my webpage! www.jen-k-design.com It has been a journey for me in testing it, tweaking it, and just completely starting over but it has been a learning experience.

Next – can you believe the holidays are just a few weeks away?! I will start sharing various ideas on my facebook page for gifts that you might be interested in giving to friends and family. Prices will vary – however, feel free to email me if you are interested in something specific and we can work out the details that you will be happy with. Many of my designs would be either emailed to you for printing, or direct shipped to you since most of the time around holidays time is of the essence!

My first series of gift ideas will be based around gifts for friends. I love to give photo gifts to friends because it takes us back to a moment in time or various moments and always reminds us of where we come from.

Have a fantastic day!

September News!

I realized last week that I haven’t updated my blog since June.  OMG!  I’m very sorry for this.  This blog was originally started as a way to get my thoughts out there, maybe get some feedback, and share with you what is new with me and my business JenK Design.

Well I do have some new photography projects that have recently unfolded.  I have been blessed with taking various pictures for about the past month of friends at weddings, a senior picture and family portrait session, and just yesterday, met an amazing baby girl that my best friend had a couple weeks ago.  Shooting images of a baby is so different than kids or adults.  I had to take a step back and realize that she doesn’t know what I want and went with the baby’s movements, and gestures rather than expect her to turn or act a certain way.

I think I amazed my friend at how patient I was but ironically, I loved every second of it and was just in awe at how a baby reacts to various things…like head bands which she did not like! 🙂  Please visit my facebook page for images or information.  I hope to make monthly blog entries to keep you in the loop of whats going on.

Thank you for reading and let me know what I’ve missed in your life or if you have anything you’d like me to work on for you.

Check out some of my favorite images since June!

Loving Nature

I grew up loving to take pictures – always looking for a pretty picture in just about everything that I look at.  It could be random but there is always something waiting to be captured.

I also adore animals (well except reptiles!) and would try to con my parents into letting me have any pet possible.  (I was blessed with cats at my parents and got to play with dogs and bucket calves on grandma’s farm.)  Therefore one of my favorite things to take pictures of is animals.  They can be so expressive.  Included in this post are a collection of images I took throughout the last couple of weeks in May 2012.  Every few of years I make the trek to the Omaha Zoo to find my favorite animals and take a TON of pictures.  You’ll find that I was in awe of the aquarium (which is my favorite exhibit) especially the tunnel and the shark tank.

I am also in awe of clouds; included are some images from storm clouds building that proved to be quite destructive that weekend!

I am randomly asked, how did you get “that” picture.  It’s simple, I always have a camera with me!  Maybe this just applies to my experiences but some of my favorite images were taken in a split second window of time.  Some times you have to wait for that window to open and snap a few images or just wait for the moment to strike you!

Please like my Facebook page if you haven’t already! www.facebook.com/jenkdesign  This summer will kick off with weddings galore – stay tuned for wedding gifts, images, and any other ideas I come up with!

How I spent a Saturday Morning!

I woke up at 5AM on Saturday March 24, 2012 anxious to have the chance to participate in an emergency management exercise in Dakota County.  I’m not much of an early morning person but once the exercise was put into motion the excitement and buzz made up for it.

The scenario was an anhydrous taker vs. mini van w/ 7 volunteers playing participants.  The participants were all college students who made the trek over to South Sioux City with us that morning.  Every person I talked to had an amazing and humbling experience.  Here are some images from the day.

Communication

How many times do you meet someone but you don’t have a personal business card or as some call it a calling card?  This is a trending idea where rather than passing out your professional information to potential employers or personal acquaintances, give them a business card that contains your personal contact information.  Personally I have two, I have one for JenK Design and I have another for my volunteer role within an organization.

I would love to create a unique and creative card that conveys your personality as much as your contact information.  Put some thought into how you can leave a lasting impression with future customers, clients, or professionals that can help you excel.

Here’s to New Beginnings!

Happy 2012!

Two more gift ideas were added to the facebook album tonight.

First off is a picture/poem combination.  For my example, I took the engagement picture of my best friend and her husband, included a lovely poem and another gift idea is complete.  I placed it on a simple background with a little design element, converted it to black & white, and it is a simple, heartfelt gift.

Available in various albums on my page are images of my photography.  Have a little ballerina on your hands? Have you seen the ballet picture in my gift ideas album?  How about architecture?  Look at the bridge picture in my projects album.

Facebook Fan Promotion – Once we hit 50 fans – one of my pages fans will get a free gift from the “Gift Ideas” album.  If the page gets 100 fans – two fans will get free gifts.  Free shipping is also included.
